{Book review} Never miss a chance by Maureen Driscoll

Posted on 22:36 by Unknown

Author: Maureen Driscoll
Title: Never Miss a chance
Series: Kellington #2
Genre: Adult, Historical romance
My e-copy: Received from author for review
Purchase: Amazon |
My rating: 4 feet

A duke’s daughter isn’t supposed to court scandal in Regency England. She isn’t supposed to involve herself in controversial causes. And she most especially isn’t supposed to expect love in a ton marriage. But Lady Elizabeth isn’t just any duke’s daughter. She’s a Kellington. And her expectations are somewhat higher than most people’s.
Marcus Redmond, the Marquess of Riverton, has been in love with his best friend’s sister for years. When Lizzie’s reputation is damaged, he offers her marriage, hoping she will come to care for him. But can the upright, staid Riverton make a love match with the impulsive, passionate Lizzie – especially when there are those who are determined to come between them?

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed this one. I like series where you can jump in to the story where ever you want since they can all be read separately. This series is about the Kellington family and every book is about one of it´s members. I recently read the first book in the series and I loved it so of course I could not say no when I got the chance to read this one. I love historical romances but they are very predictable and therefore have to be really well written and to be honest there are only so many ways you can twist a historical romance. This book as well as the first was well written, predictable, but well written and that is what made it good.

I love Lizzie, she is such a lovable character and I actually liked her right from the start when she was introduced in book one. She is a really headstrong woman who knows what she wants and she is not afraid to go after it. She is way beyond her time and she has to suffer from it from the very traditional and small minded people around her, especially the ton. Lucky for Lizzie she has a really supportive family and close friends and she knows it.

The hero of the story, Marcus, is a really stiff character, at least that is what everyone around him thinks. But we get to know the real Marcus under all that refinement. He is thoughtful and never rash in decisions, but he is also very passionate even though etiquette doesn't always allow him to show it. He is also fiercely protective of the ones he loves.

I really loved this story, it is a perfect historical romance and a perfect summer read. It is well worth your time if you are in to this genre.
