{Author spotlight} Introducing Anne E. Johnson

Posted on 20:00 by Unknown

After a few months of no Author spotlight we are now having an author with us again with a lot of fun posts to look forward to during the month of July. We think it is really important to support authors and especially authors who are not very big yet. By hosting Author spotlight we are, in a small way, helping authors to make them selves known to the world. During July you can look forward to seven posts by the author Anne E. Johnson.

Anne E. Johnson

Drawing on her eclectic background, which includes degrees in classical languages and musicology, Anne E. Johnson has published in a wide variety of topics and genres. She's written non-fiction books for children with the Rosen Group and feature articles for adults in serials such as The New York Times and Stagebill Magazine.

Book review: Fire Baptized by Kenya Wright

Posted on 12:56 by Unknown
Author: Kenya Wright
Title: Fire Baptized
Series: Habitat #1
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Purchase: Amazon
My Rating: 3 feet

Since the 1970s humans have forced supernaturals to live in caged cities. Silver brands embedded in their foreheads identify them by species: a full moon for Vampires, a crescent moon for Shifters, a pair of wings for Fairies, and the list goes on, for each supernatural species has been tagged and categorized by humans.

Lanore Vesta is marked with a silver X, the brand of Mixbreeds, second-class citizens shunned by society. She stays to herself, revealing her ability to create fire only during emergencies. All she wants to do is graduate college and stop having to steal to survive. But when she stumbles upon a murder in progress, she catches the attention of a supernatural killer. Now all she wants is to stop finding dead bodies in her apartment.

Enlisting help from her Were-cheetah ex-boyfriend MeShack and a new mysterious friend named Zulu, she is steered through the habitat’s raunchy nightlife. But their presence sometimes proves to be more burden than help, as they fight for her attention.

While the corpses pile up, and the scent of blood fills the air, Lanore is left wondering: Will she find the psycho or die trying?

My thoughts:

Okey so, for starters I have not read many Urban Fantasy books in the past so I don´t have much to compare this one with. It was a nice read even though it was a bit to much "thriller" for my taste.
When I say thriller I mean that it has to much blood and stuff (cut of body parts) that I just wanted to puke at times. I am not a very queasy person to begin with so for me that says something.

When I look past the blood and the body parts I see a good story that will give you a lot of suspense, horror, love, intrigue and humor. I had a little bit of everything.

Lanore is the main charachter and I really liked getting to know her. She has her ups and downs and she has to deal a lot with her emotions and to overcome stuff. She is very brave and loving and I got the feeling that she can deal with anything that you throw her way.

All in all this was a good story. Just not 100% my taste. Therefore I will only rate the book a three.
BUT for those who enjoy reading this type of book I have no doubt that you will like it.

Cover reveal: Someone Else´s skye, Men of Brahm Hill by Christine Wenrick

Posted on 12:36 by Unknown

Release date October 1st!

One night. . . One violent supernatural battle . . .

And five stories of the men whose lives

will be changed by it.

Kane, Brethren Guardian and one of the few Natural Shape-Shifters left in existence, survived the bloody battle of Brahm Hill but lost two of his closest friends. For all of his good-natured sarcasm and eye-popping good looks, Kane finds himself unable to completely forget about that night, so he seeks comfort in the one thing he is truly good at . . . sex!

This shape-shifting bad boy believes in having a good time—a very good time, usually involving some mingled heavy breathing with a sexy Dhampir in a tiny closet somewhere. But when he’s sent into the freezing tundra of the Northwest Territories to investigate a troublesome supernatural being on the loose, he ends up crossing paths with a woman who almost instantly drives him insane with want . . . because she doesn’t seem to be falling for the shifter’s charms.

It’s completely inexplicable.

Skye Matthews has a job to do, and she needs to be focused on that, not spending all her time rebuffing the advances of this way-too-cocky and handsome stranger. Yet, there is something irresistible about this self-involved playboy that Skye can’t seem to stay away from. And when the unidentified Kane is sent to investigate takes an unnatural interest in her, protecting her becomes the Guardian’s top priority.

But . . . can Kane save Skye from a supernatural being no one has ever encountered before?

Waiting on Wednesday!

Posted on 23:00 by Unknown

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme and is hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine

This week I´m waiting for thes econd book in Nicole Williams series Lost & Found

Near & Far by Nicole Williams
Expected release June 30th!

There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker.

If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get annoying. Fast.

Falling in love with the girl who had at first seemed immune to it, was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him into their family when he was five. But loving the girl who has her fair share of secrets is about as easy as that same girl loving the boy who seems to have none.

As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch, and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they begin to wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one.

As push comes to shove and choices aren’t only needing to be made, but forced to be made, Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other.

Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents, go on to expect a promising future? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it.

Share two "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!

Ella and Micha have survived tragedy and heartbreak. When they're together, anything seems possible. But now they are thousands of miles apart, and managing their long distance relationship will put their love to the test.

Ella is back at school, trying hard not worry so much about her future. But with her father in and out of rehab, she's having a hard time making it through the days. All she wants is Micha by her side, but she refuses to let her problems get in the way of his dreams.

Micha spends his days touring the country with his band, but deep down he knows something is missing. Being away from Ella is harder than he thought it would be. He wants her closer to him-needs her with him. But he won't ask her to leave college, just to be with him.

The few moments they do spend together are intense and passionate, but it only makes it more difficult when they have to part. They know they want to be together, but is wanting something enough to get them to their forever?

Teaser

I start to walk around him, but he sidesteps me, blocking my path as he puts a hand on each side of the doorway. " Look me in the eye and tell me you did it, " he growls. "Tell me that you fucking ripped out my heart and stomped on it."
My tounge feels like lead, but I manage to keep my voice steady.

Book review: Assets by Shannon Dermott

Posted on 00:00 by Unknown

Author: Shannon Dermott
Title: Assets
Series: Balance Sheet #1
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
My Copy: E-book from Amazon
Purchase: Amazon
My rating: 5 feet

Blurb
Bailey Glicks, an accountant, is all too aware of her asset value. She’s pretty but not beautiful, smart but not a genius, and certainly she thinks she is more than enough for her fiancé. All that changes when she catches his cheating ass in a lie.

Needing to get away and start anew, she heads to New York to stay with her best friend and former college roommate, Lizzy who has more than enough space to accommodate her. What she didn’t bank on are two things.

First, Kalen Brinner, a man whose implied wealth and attractiveness on paper, shouldn’t be interested in her. But their combined sexual attraction sparks off like fireworks. Will it be enough to sustain a relationship, especially when circumstance makes one of them appear less than trustworthy? Can they survive the heat or will they combust in the flame of their own passion?

Second, when the assets in audit she’s working feel like they’ve been tainted with fraud; her supervisor isn’t buying her theory.

And if she’s wrong about either, both could make her lose big. One her heart. The other her job
.

My thoughts:

I fell inlove with Shannon Dermotts books when I first read Beg for Mercy and as much as I love the Cambion series I was really excited to see that this one was released.
That gave me something great to read while waiting for Angel of Mercy =)
I had no doubt that this book was to be great after reading the plot. And of course since it's Shannons work.

Well then, to get to the point. This book was fantastic and had me wanting more. I can't wait to get my hands on Liabilities!
The story itself was great with twists and turns and I had a hard time putting the book down.
It was a steamy story from page one which I loved. It just dug right in there and didn't stop until the last page.

Bailey was likable and it was easy to feel for her. She had a ruff patch when her fiance cheated on her but she kicked him of the curb and left for another city, New York.
She is strong minded and that I love.

In comes Kalen. Swoon! what can I say except I love him! He is your typical "bad boy". He is possesive, good in bed and rich. LOVE!

I can really recommend this one!

Saturday snapshot #26

Posted on 07:06 by Unknown

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce @ AT Home With Books.
Share your photos with us! They can be old or new but should be taken by you!

I love summer! It is way to short in Sweden and that is probably why I love it so much. If we are lucky this summer we might have many sunny and warm days or we can be unlucky and have a summer like last year, really cold and rainy because to be honest you can never know what kind weather it will be. And this might sound strange but the weather is a really popular subject here. probably because it is so hard to predict it here. For me summer is strawberries! I love strawberries and it is such a beautiful fruit.

Maureen Driscoll

I really enjoy the books by Driscoll. She has written the Kellington series. I've read the first book in that series and I loved it. She has a really lovely writing style, cozy almost. But her characters doesn't always have it easy and they face many challenges on their way to happiness. You can read more about Driscoll on goodreads

The Kellington series:
  1. Never a mistress, no longer a maid
  2. Never miss a chance
  3. Never wager against love
  4. Never run from love
  5. Never deny your heart

Caught behind enemy lines at the Battle of Waterloo, nurse Jane Wetherby is forced to seek shelter with British operative Lord Edward Kellington. After a night of passion, the two are separated. With nothing but the alias Jane used to protect her family, Lord Edward is unable to find the woman he cannot forget.
Seven years later, Jane courts scandal by serving as the unofficial surgeon in the village of Marston Vale. When Edward arrives to formalize his betrothal to a viscount's daughter in accordance with his late father's wishes, Jane has no choice but to watch the match proceed. When a threat from the past emerges, Jane must join forces with Edward to safeguard her loved ones. But at what risk to her heart?

Paranormal Thursday with Aprilynne Pike

Paranormal Thursday is a feature @Rather barefoot than bookless

In this feature you  highlight an author and a book that you really enjoy reading from in the paranormal genre. There are so many great books out there and so many awesome authors. So this is a chance for us all to recommend some books and authors to each other that we really like.

This is what you do if you want to join:
  • Highlight an author and a book that you enjoy by that author.
  • Tell us what you like about the author you have chosen and why the book is worth reading.
  • Use our PT button or make your own

  • Link up at the end of this post by using inlinkz.
  • If you do not have blog leave a comment with a recommendation of an author and a book.

Aprilynne Pike

Aprilynne is the author of the Wings series. I love it a lot. It´s about fairies and it´s four books in the series. I like that Pike writes in a way that will have you reading most of the day and night because she makes the story interesting all through the series. It is a story that deals with  love and how complicated it can be, despair, loss, action and the magic world of fairies. Pike is also really good with scenery and how to describe so it feels like you are right there with the characters in the story.
You can read more about Pike on goodreads  and on aprilynnepike.com

All books in the series:
Wings
Spells
Illusions
Destined

Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.
Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

{Rockstar blogtour} Book review and giveaway of Jaded by Mercy Amare

Posted on 13:13 by Unknown

Author: Mercy Amare
Title: Jaded
Series: The rockstar trilogy #1
Genre: New adult, contemporary romance
My e-copy: from author for review
Purchase: Amazon | B&N | Smashwords
My rating: Four feet

I'm Scarlett Ryan.
Yes, THAT Scarlett Ryan.
I live an extraordinary life: millionaire rock star, owner of exotic cars, pictures of me in every magazine, millions of fans, and a name that is recognized world wide. It's supposed to be my dream come true. But, my life IS a fantasy, and I want real. I want exciting. I want... NORMAL. So, I moved from California to Florida, hoping to obtain some normalcy. Instead I find...
Stephan Montgomery.
He's an arrogant jerk. Seriously, I hate him. I swear if he tells me one more blonde joke, I will punch him... again... Unfortunately I can't stop thinking about him, or his gorgeous green eyes. Trust me, I know that he's bad for me. If only my heart would listen.
I also find out that my parents have kept a LIFE CHANGING secret from me. I need to know the truth. The harder I strive for normal, the stranger things seem to get.
My thoughts:

I finished this book with a smile on my face. I really enjoyed it!
The plot was good with twists and turns. You also get some WTF moments and I really liked that :)
The whole feeling of the book felt raw. Pure and raw emotions as well as the language. It do need some editing but it was ok anyway. I loved that there was no censure on the language. The charachters spoke their mind and that's what I felt was raw and pure.

The charachters:
Scarlett is a really good lead charachter and I really liked her. Although she felt very immature and selfish at times she really grows on you.
She evolves and in the end of the book she really has grown into a bit more of an adult.
I get why she is the way she is since her lifestyle is anything but normal.

Stephan is yummy with his green eyes and badboy attitude. He has his sceletons in the closet but I love him anyway :) He feels really honest and speaks his mind. He and Scar is a perfect match!

Ethan is the "stepbrother" of Stephan. When we first got introduced to him I kind of thought for a very short time that he was the one going to end up with Scar. But in came Stephan and that thought went away quickly.

I really liked the love story between Scar and Stephan. In the end of the book we kind of got a little cliffhanger and it really made me want to read book 2 so that I get to know more of whats going to happen with all of their lives. This is a book to recommend!

Author Bio
I am a YA/ NA author of the books: Don’t Tell, You Got Me, and the Rock Star Trilogy: Jaded, Faded, and Hated. I have a slight addiction to the TV series Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries. I'm 23 years old, and I currently live in St Louis, with my husband of 2 years.
