Tune in Tuesday

Posted on 15:30 by Unknown
Tune in Tuesday is hosted by Ginger @ GReads

I have no idea if there is a theme this week because I am doing this in advance so I will be sure it´s done. Sometimes I forget to do this meme on time, so I thought to myself I would make it a scheduled post.

For me there is music that you just love to bounce around to when you hear it. A happy tune, an easy tune. This kind of music does not have to be extra ordinary by any means for me to enjoy it. the lyrics does not matter because the tune is catchy. Then you have music that is moving and perhaps a bit sad but beautiful. The lyric is much more important for me when it comes to this kind of music. I have to feel something when I listen to it.

Then you have music that is more than JUST music, it is out of this world and exquisite. This music is not music it is art. For me this music is made by a painter a wizard. When music and lyric comes together in perfect harmony and when you have unexpected musical combinations that just totally work that is for me art. You might not agree with me but I have two musical groups that I want to share with you that in my mind fit this category.

First out we have Coldplay. I´m guessing most of you know who they since they are kind of big. I just love their sound. They have something that is so unique and beautiful. And their music is their own.

The Other group that I think is completely genius when it comes to combine music and lyrics are HURTS

Blog tour, book review: Back to Bataan by Jerome Charyn

Posted on 09:50 by Unknown
Tribute books blog tour
Author: Jerome Charyn
Title: Back to Bataan
Series: None
Genre:  Historical young adult
Purchase: B&N | Amazon
My rating: 4 stars

About the book:
New York City, 1943. War is raging in Europe and the Pacific, while Jack Dalton is stuck attending Dutch Masters Day School. What Jack really wants is to enlist in the army, to fight...
Everything changes when Coco, Jack's "fiancee," throws him over for one of his classmates. Jack sees red and does something drastic. Then he runs away. Hiding out in a nearby park, Jack joins ranks with a group of vagrants and is soon under the sway of a man called the Leader, an ex-convict who is as articulate and charismatic as he is dangerous. The Leader turns Jack's world upside down. To put things right, Jack must prove himself a braver soldier than he ever imagined.

My thoughts:
When I began reading this book I was thinking that this book was not all that good. But then I started to realize that I was looking at it all wrong. This book was not what I thought it would be. It was not the usual YA that I usually read and so it would be wrong to judge it by that. So I changed my "glasses" and started over and what I found was actually really good. This book is more of a serious historical young adult and it is a book who will leave you in thought. I actually think this book would be a perfect read in school. You know one of those obligated books you have to read in school and then discuss in class. I think this book would be perfect for that because this book contains so much worth to discuss. Bravery, compassion, morality, betrayal, love, world war 2 from an american perspective and so much more

Young Jack Dalton is so grown up for such a young boy and he is very troubled by the death of his father and the fact that his final resting place is in a mass grave in Bataan. This is on young Jacks mind a lot and it deeply affect his daily life. This book is about his struggle to fit in this world and find his place in a world in war.

This was a very serious book and no laughing matter. I highly recommend it to all young adults and grown ups. This book will make you think. And when was it ever a bad thing to use ones mind to think?

Jerome Charyn's Bio:
Jerome Charyn (born May 13, 1937) is an award-winning American author. With nearly 50 published works, Charyn has earned a long-standing reputation as an inventive and prolific chronicler of real and imagined American life. Michael Chabon calls him “one of the most important writers in American literature.”

New York Newsday hailed Charyn as “a contemporary American Balzac,” and the Los Angeles Times described him as “absolutely unique among American writers.”

Since 1964, he has published 30 novels, three memoirs, eight graphic novels, two books about film, short stories, plays and works of non-fiction. Two of his memoirs were named New York Times Book of the Year. Charyn has been a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. He received the Rosenthal Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and has been named Commander of Arts and Letters by the French Minister of Culture.

Charyn lives in Paris and New York City.

Book review: The burning star by Jessie lane

Posted on 12:27 by Unknown
Author: Jessie Lane
Title: The burning star
Series: Star series #1
Genre: Young adult, paranormal romance
Purchase; Amazon | B&N
My rating: 5 stars

About the book:
The doctors have told Kay that she will die before she reaches her eighteenth birthday. Her mother’s determination to save her life leads them to a move outside of Asheville, NC to a new set of cancer specialists in the hopes to help her. But it’s not what Kay and her Mom find in the doctor’s offices in Asheville that lead them on the journey to save her before time runs out. It’s what Kay finds in the woods outside of Asheville, and an inhumanly gorgeous guy named Ryan, instead.
Myths and fairy tales come to life before Kay’s eyes, bringing her closer to the ultimate cure if she can stay alive long enough to get there. And if the cancer doesn’t kill her before she finds the cure the secrets her mother has hidden from her may be the beginning of the end.

My thoughts:

This is by far one of the best books I´ve read so far this year! It is well worth your time to read. I was kind of surprised that this book was this amazing and I was even more surprised at the content. I would never in a million years have guessed the turn outs in this one! If you want something who will surprise you and keep you guessing then this is a book for you. And a big warning if you do not like cliff hangers because OMG!! I want to read book two like yesterday if possible please!!! It was quite a while since I´ve been this involved in a book! I lived in it, I breathed it  and I slept in it! There was just no possible way not to.

I love the characters in this book both the ones you know about from the blurb but also a few surprise characters that will be introduced along the way and wow are one of them a mystery all though I think I have figured out who she might be?
Kay is amazing! She is fighting against cancer and still managed to enjoy life. She has come to terms with that she will not survive this but even so she won´t give up hope and I love that about her. Ryan is such a great guy and then we have Nick who will spice it up a bit and complicate things for Kay.

There are so many question marks when you are done with this book it is impossible to let it go! It will stay with you until the questions are answered!
This book contains a lot of romance as it should but also some action and humor to make this book so amazing you will read until your eyes bleed!
