Waiting on Wednesday: Fractured Souls

Posted on 00:00 by Unknown

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme and is hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine

This week I am waiting for book two in the Shattered promises series.

Expected release June 2013!
Gemma thought she had said her good-byes and had felt every possible emotion she could before her soul was detached again. Deep down inside, she hoped she’d never wake up from it because, in her eyes, life without emotion and memories isn’t worth living.

But she does wake up and discovers she can still feel and remember everything she experienced over the last few months. Alex is also telling her that everything’s okay, that he didn’t betray her, and that what she thought happened really didn’t.

Gemma isn’t sure if she can trust Alex, so she tries to keep her distance from him, even though the electric connection and her desire make it nearly impossible. The only person she can trust is Laylen, but even that becomes complicated when the lines of their friendship begin to blur.

While Gemma struggles with her emotions and relationships, she searches for her mother, entering a dangerous world of secrets, seduction, and evil. The further she digs into her mother’s secrets and past, the more she wonders what waits for her at the end of her search and if maybe some things are better left in the dark.

Since the 1970s humans have forced supernaturals to live in caged cities. Silver brands embedded in their foreheads identify them by species: a full moon for Vampires, a crescent moon for Shifters, a pair of wings for Fairies, and the list goes on, for each supernatural species has been tagged and categorized by humans. Lanore Vesta is marked with a silver X, the brand of Mixbreeds, second-class citizens shunned by society. She stays to herself, revealing her ability to create fire only during emergencies. All she wants to do is graduate college and stop having to steal to survive. But when she stumbles upon a murder in progress, she catches the attention of a supernatural killer. Now all she wants is to stop finding dead bodies in her apartment. Enlisting help from her Were-cheetah ex-boyfriend MeShack and a new mysterious friend named Zulu, she is steered through the habitat’s raunchy nightlife. But their presence sometimes proves to be more burden than help, as they fight for her attention.

Excerpt

Without a word, Matthew reached out, took Emily by the hand and pulled her down beside him. He looked into her eyes and smiled. “I knew my Emily was still in there.”

Out of the blue, the room became incredibly hot, as if Gabriel had entered in order to give a lesson to his favorite students. “What?”

“That spark.” He pulled Emily’s face closer before she could push herself away. “You’ve been acting all this time like you’re just here to sit and wait it out until you’re lucky enough to go Home. But you’re still in there, Emily. You still have all that energy and belief in there and you want to do something. That’s the partner I know.”

Shaking her head, Emily listened to her own breathing intensify as she stared at his full lips and wondered why she felt so completely and utterly strange...vulnerable even. “I want to help this girl. This is a job, maybe my only job down here. She saw a ghost and she wants me to help her out, that’s all.”

“And you will.” Matthew captured Emily’s lips, and she could no longer feel the breath in her lungs. Completely different than the one kiss they’d shared up above so long ago, this one was far more demanding, as if Matthew was a young man determined to kiss his human love for the very first time.

Sitting back, Emily practically jumped off the bed.

“I’m sorry,” she heard him whisper behind her. “I guess I was just excited to see you again.”

Not trusting her voice, she remained silent.

“We have jobs, but we also have a life to live. Our own lives this time around. Maybe you should think about adding that into your angelic plans.” Matthew continued softly, “Jason isn’t here, Emily.”

The name being said out loud sent a chill down Emily’s spine. It reminded her of the vow she’d made a long time ago—a vow that an angel couldn’t break.

She cleared her throat. “It doesn’t matter if he’s here. We were sent to do a job, and maybe helping this little girl prove her story is what I need to begin.”

Standing up, Matthew looked as if he was a man who wanted nothing more than to turn back the clock and erase the name he’d spoken aloud. He walked to the open window. “Well, I hope the job goes well. Good luck with it.”

“Matthew,” Emily took a step toward him. “Don’t leave like this.”

He nodded at the book on the bed. “You have your mission, Emily...your job. Ghosts, goblins, lost souls—knock yourself out.” He took a deep breath. “I wonder when you’re going to figure out that the living souls around you would like some of your attention as well.”

Closing her eyes, Emily shed silent tears as she heard his feet hit the ground beneath her window. A friend, a partner, the one who actually listened, was now just an angry young man racing back to The Armory—a place where warriors reigned.

Emily sighed. She’d done it again. No matter how hard she tried to be good, her mouth always got her into trouble. She needed Matthew to understand. She’d made a promise to a young man a long time ago; a promise that was supposed to last for eternity. How was she to know at the time that their eternity would include death by her hand? Had the second time around broken their vow? Emily had no idea. But whatever happened she could not and would not offer Matthew her heart if payment was still due for her past sins. Above all, Matthew was the last person who deserved to be punished for her mistakes.

It is absolutely a read that I am sure anyone would enjoy. I really enjoyed Evan Tyler`s writing style. Read more about Evan Tyler on goodreads

A Story Inspired by Steven Tyler: The first book in a three-part series
It happened by accident, a lottery of events…
In 1988, a blind seven-year-old lay in a hospital room longing for her mother, unaware that eight years earlier a chance encounter occurred that would shape her life.
American musician Bobby Carter moved to Manchester, England with one objective—to become a major player in the postpunk scene of the late Seventies. His quest for stardom steers him in the direction of Kindle Hyrum, whose feistiness is only exceeded by her raw beauty. Though Bobby’s steady pursuit trumps Kindle’s cheeky resistance—sweeping them into present bliss—past secrets, new temptations, and a series of hapless and happy accidents will determine their future...and the future of a blind child.
Set to the lyrical soundtrack of the 60s and 70s, A Happy Accident is a story of love and choice that transcends the ages.

Book review. A happy accident by Evan Tyler

Posted on 09:45 by Unknown

Author Evan tyler
Title A happy accident
Series book 1
Genre Contemporary romance
My copy e-book, received by author for review

My rating 4.5 feet

It happened by accident, a lottery of events…
In 1988, a blind seven-year-old lay in a hospital room longing for her mother, unaware that eight years earlier a chance encounter occurred that would shape her life.
American musician Bobby Carter moved to Manchester, England with one objective—to become a major player in the postpunk scene of the late Seventies. Set to the lyrical soundtrack of the 60s and 70s, A Happy Accident is a story of love and choice that transcends the ages.
My thoughts

I loved this book. It was an unusual and really emotional read, that I enjoyed a lot. It was really beautifully written and I really think that the author captured the characters emotions as well as the scenery.

This was a great love story but it was a really sad one. The love that Kindle and Bobby shared was a great one but as often in life their own baggage and external pressure from people around them tore kindle and bobby apart. This story is really filled with so many emotions such as love, passion, anger, resentment and friendship. This is not a feel good story but a very real one and I highly recommend to read this.I really wanted to dislike this book because it didn`t have the usual happily ever after ending that I usually like to read but this story was just to amazing not to like. I can`t wait for the next book in this series, I really want to know what happens next.

New Adult review: Hidden Gates by D.T. Dyllin

Posted on 10:56 by Unknown
Author:D.T. Dyllin
Title: Hidden Gates
Series: P.J. Stone Gates Triology #1
Genre: New Adult, Paranormal Romace
My Copy: E-book
Purchase: Amazon
My rating: 4 feet

Blurb:

For P.J. Stone, being a “Seer” who has never seen anything is less than fun. And P.J. isn’t known for her patience.

To make matters worse, she must choose a suitable mate to continue the Seer bloodline. Duty always comes before her heart…at least that’s what her parents taught her. When she finds herself wanting someone who is considered off-limits, P.J. is forced to question everything she believes.

As if navigating her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. finally receives a vision—of a threat to her world that only she can perceive. But no one will believe a fledgling Seer’s warnings. With nowhere else to turn, she may decide to trust a stranger with her life, her world, and maybe even her heart.

What did I think?

Well, I actually really liked this book. There were some things in it that I dissliked but the over all story was so good that it didn´t matter. So first to the things that I liked. To me this was a unique story.  I did not think it would be after reading the blurb but as the story progress so does it´s unique quality. Dyllin was really good at giving the reader alot of  "What the F#*!?" moments heh. I absolutely love those. You really don´t expect it and sometimes you don´t want it too but then it just happens. Am I making sence? lol.

The charachers are awesome and you really are in their world for a while.
First of we have main charachter P.J. She is you regular 18 year old girl who just happens to be a Seer. The problem is that she has never had a vision. YET. When she finally gets one it is huge as you read in the blurb.
I really liked P.J. and the way she was portraid. She feels so normal even though she´s not. When faced with though decisions she makes the right ones even though they may be horrible.

Then we have Bryn who is P.J.s best male friend. They have known eachother since kindergarden and has been attached to the hip ever since.
Loved him alot because he was so caring and nice to P.J.

Then in walks Khol... tadaa! The first ever douchbag that I fall in love with! I have never read a book where I love the douchbag until reading this one. Thank you Dyllin! I have been waiting to know what the fuss was about. I love him and hate him at the same time.
Khol is one big mystery that I will not reveal too much about without spoilers except that he is worth your time. Many of the "What the F#*!?" moments came with him.

Now to the things I did not like. First of the setting of where this story is playing out. I´m not sure if it was just me who missed it but I did not grasp it until half the book was read. Personally I want to know this from the beginning. Not sure if that´s just me?

Then one thing that happened was truly not believable but I can´t say what since I would spoil thing. Sorry. But for me it was not a dealbreaker as to how I would rate the book so it was ok.

All in all I really recommend you to read it!

Have you ever read a book that you thought you would hate -- ? Did you end up hating it? Did you end up loving it? Or would you never do that?

Actually I would never do that. At least I don´t think I would.
But I had it the other way. One book that I really thought that I would love but I ended up really hating it. It was so bad that I didn´t even finish it. And then I hated it even more because it is the only book ever that I didn´t finish.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme and is hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine

Life outside of her house was a new experience for Della Sloane. The dark secrets of her past weren’t something she ever intended to share with anyone. They would never understand. No one would ever get close enough to find out. Besides there was always a chance she’d go crazy sooner than they expected…

Woods Kerrington had never been one to be attracted to fragile females. They seemed like too much work. He wasn’t in it for the work just the pleasure. A night full of naughty fun had been exactly what was on his mind when he’d laid eyes on the hot little number that didn’t know how to pump gas and needed some help.

What he didn’t know was she was as fragile as they came.

The carefree girl who spoke her mind and didn’t care what the world thought of her was more breakable than he could ever imagine…

And everyone seems a little too happy that she’s there: especially when she meets Sunni and her group of friends. They seem to already know Ingrid. As if she was expected. Expected to save Earth from an imminent alien invasion. Like she has superpowers or something.
As if magic and mutations exist. As if aliens are really planning to attack.
That just sounds ridiculous. There’s no such thing.

…right?

Wrong.

"Mom always told me there are two kinds of love in this world: the steady breeze, and the hurricane. Emerson Ray was my hurricane...."

Juliet McKenzie was an innocent eighteen-year old when she spent the summer in Cedar Cove—and fell head over heels in love with Emerson. Complicated, intense Emerson, the local bad boy. His blue eyes hid dark secrets, and just one touch could set Juliet ablaze. Their love was demanding and all-consuming, but when summer ended, tragedy tore them apart. Juliet swore she’d never go back, and she’s kept that promise… Until now.

Four years later, Juliet’s done her best to rebuild the wreckage of her shattered life. She’s got a great boyfriend, and a steady job planned after she graduates. Returning to Cedar Cove to pack up her family’s beach house to prepare it for sale, Juliet is determined that nothing will stand in the way of her future. But one look from Emerson, and all her old desire comes flooding back. He let her go once, but this time, he’s not giving up without a fight. And Emerson fights dirty.

A heartbreaking history. An unstoppable passion. Torn between her past and future, Juliet struggles to separate love from desire. But will they find a way to overcome their tragic secrets—together? And after so much damage has been done, can a love remain unbroken?

Teaser
I don´t even turn right away, but I know he´s here, somewhere. I can´t explain it, but it´s like my body has a special radar, just for him. I would know him in a hurricane, in a snowstorm, if I was deaf and blind. My body knows him by heart.
