Tribute Blog Tour; Review+ giveaway of Owlet by Emma Michaels

Posted on 03:34 by Unknown

I want to thank Tribute blog tours for the opportunity to be part of this great blog tour of the awesome book Owlet. In this post I will give you my honest review of this book but this post will also include a expert and a giveaway so keep on reading to find them later on in this post.
I want to introduce to you the very talented author of Owlet:

Emma Michaels

Emma Michaels is the author of the ‘A Sense of Truth’ and ‘Society of Feathers’ series. Her goal with her latest YA novel 'Owlet' is to give others what she did not have growing up; a strong female protagonist with asthma. While her previous aspiration was to be a lady knight she realized that not being able to run more than a few feet might become a hindrance so turned to writing instead. Her day jobs include being a cover artist, marketing consultant and silk screen designer.

As the founder of The Writers Voice blog (http://OurBooksOurVoice.Blogspot.com) she loves to connect authors and readers. As a book blogger turned author, she was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, until she moved at eighteen to Washington State. Suddenly, the world was a new place filled with tall green trees that reached further for the sky with every moment, making her want to do the same. Ever since, she has tried to make her life something new and different from what it was before, pursuing her future career, setting high goals and reaching for them. With the support of her fiancé, Chihuahua, and her amazing blog followers and fellow bloggers, she wants to prove to the world that anything is possible and help inspire fellow literary lovers to reach for their dreams.

Summary:

Somewhere between falling and flying… there is a girl.
Iris has a secret. She lost her memory eight years ago and never told a living soul. After an asthma attack one night she finds out that her dreams of a strange house on a snowy island may be a memory resurfacing but the more she learns about the past the more she realizes the life she has been living is a lie. As the façade her father has built starts to crumble around her she will have to decide which means more to her; the truth or her life.
My thoughts:

I loved this book. It was so different from other books I´ve read in this genre. And even though the concept isn´t new. Michaels makes her novel new and unique (as far as my knowledge goes).  I loved that even though you could guess it, Michaels did not let the secret of this book slip to easy. And the guessing makes you want to read more so it was a smart move to keep readers going. I usually prefer reading books in first person but somehow it worked out really well for this story to be written in third person.

Iris our heroine in this book is a strong woman and even though she has asthma and is strongly physically prevented to do anything like running or have to strong emotions she is not stopped by this and you have to love that about her. Even though she physically week she has a very strong spirit. I also feel like she is developing during the story and keeps getting stronger in spirit. She is a very likeable character and you can really feel everything she feels and wants out of her life.

there are many side characters as well around Iris that builds this story and makes it into something great. Like the boy with secrets of his own. Her father who in an attempt to protect her has lied to her most of life. And we get to meet many more wonderful characters in this book. I can´t wait for the sequel to come out so I can keep on reading this amazing story.

Owlet Excerpt

Falling forward onto her hands and knees, Iris felt like her soul was taking over her physical body and she bent forward trying to stay alert. The rustling next to her grew louder and she thought she saw someone walk out from the tree line, but as soon as the person had appeared they were gone.

Diana came running up behind her. “Iris!” she yelled, and before Iris knew it she was flipped on her back and an inhaler was pressed to her lips.

When she could breathe again Iris sat up and bent over her legs trying to stretch out her back, hoping it would help loosen her lungs. When she looked up, Diana was staring at her with wide eyes, only inches away from her face.

“You ran? You’re a lifelong asthmatic. Why did you run? It’s not like you can tell me that you just forgot that you can’t. What aren’t you telling me, Iris?” Diana’s face was calculating and firm but Iris remained silent. “I just came to this island and faced my one true fear for you. You should know by now that you can tell me anything. But more than that, I can’t protect you if you are hiding things from me.”

Iris still stayed quiet, not sure what to say. She sat there thinking as Diana stared her down. Finally, sighing deeply, Diana moved away and gave Iris some space. Turning, she surveyed their surroundings.

“I have dreamt about this place.” Iris heard herself say. “I wanted to know if the dream was real. I wanted to see the house.”

Diana was watching her again. Her eyebrows furrowed as she stood up and closed her eyes for a moment, as if needing to clear her head. When she opened them again she reached her hand down to help Iris up. “Okay. Let’s see.”

Diana looked hesitant but followed Iris towards the house. “Can I...maybe...do this on my own?” Iris asked. When she looked at Diana again she almost wished she hadn’t. She didn’t want to hurt Diana but she needed to know. Iris needed to see it the way she had in her dreams.

“Go.” Diana said simply, sitting down on the ground. “I will wait here, come and get me when you’re ready or holler, but keep your inhaler with you. I need to make a call anyway and let your father know we arrived safely, reception at the house might be shoddy.”

As Iris turned towards the house she wondered why Diana was letting her go but when she glanced back Diana seemed to be urgently whispering into the phone.
